Interesting service – would you use it?

A few weeks ago I received an email I thought was kind of interesting. It was from Hertz Car Rental who are now offering a service where they will drive you back to the airport so you don’t have to use the airport shuttle bus, walk, or tram.

I am not sure if they offer this service in every airport or just testing the concept. This email was for Orlando. I think the strategy is very creative and I give them props for developing the program. I would love to know if you would use it and what airports would make the most sense?

  • Would you use the service?
  • What do you think about the $20 charge? Too high? Just about right?
  • What airports do you think make the most sense?

I look forward to reading your comments.

I probably wouldn't use it, unless I was way behind or new that I could expense it. When I traveled more, I was high level president's circle and they would offer this services to me for free at Hertz. I think this is more indicative of the challenges some airports have of locating the rental car parking lot near the airport. DFW is one of the worst with a long drive to the rental car center. All in all, with the advent of UBER, I've dramatically reduced getting a rental car, just because of this hassle, and just opting to use UBER for door to door service. It's not just car companies being hurt by these better more convenient options.

It makes intuitive sense and certainly adds to the experience. It seems like a bonus to offer those with status at Hertz. I'd pay for it myself.

Yes, this service would be valuable. In a past life I state-hopped 4 to 5 days/week and I can't tell you the number of times that I raced to Avis and asked the attendant to join me for a ride to the airport so that I would not miss my next flight. Avis always joined me. That was then and I don't know if the ride would be free today.

This would be a great service. The biggest challenge with car rentals is the return - and having to wait for a bus or train and then walk a few miles to check in. I've paid cabs more than $20 to run me directly to check in so I could make a flight in Ft Lauderdale.
