Interdisciplinary Minimally Invasive Treatment by Arthur R. Volker DDS, MSEd, FAGD, FACD, DWCMID. Dentaltown Cosmetic Dentistry https://www.dentaltown.com/MessageBoard/thread.aspx?s=2&f=101&t=251751&pg=1&r=4040757&v=0. Introduction: This case was never finished as the patient "left" the country, but for me it demonstrated the impact of minimally-invasive dentistry, because the treatment was so subtle, but the impact could have been so large. Treatment consisted of perio, internal bleaching of #9, ortho, and a polychromatic composite on #9. Due to "legal" issues, we never got to do the composite. However, this treatment, would have involved little if any tooth preparation (perhaps only for a starburst or infinity bevel on #9). This was a pro bono case. Patient sustained trauma to #9 when she was 12 years old. Patient was now 21. #9 is slightly labioverted. She did not like the "yellow tooth that was sticking out".

After removal of brackets and another prophy. Hygiene was certainly an issue with the patient

I had been asked as to why I didn't just prepare the facial of #9 (and #8) and do crowns / veneers on both #8 and 9. First off, it is way too aggressive a treatment for my liking. Also, the increased chroma that can result from preparing a non-vital tooth may prove challenging for the lab. Metal ceramic or "oxide" ceramic crowns are another viable option, but would require too much tooth reduction for my liking.
Conclusion: There are certainly many ways to skin a cat. If possible, I will opt to move rather than re-move. Arthur R. Volker DDS, MSEd, FAGD, FACD, DWCMID
