I’ve been marking my students essays on immigration this morning, and that – coupled with my husband’s post on Facebook ?re. a picture that popped up on his phone from 2 years ago in colorful Kosovo, reminded me of 1 - not only the time we lived there ... but 2 - also the impact of students’ research and presentations when choosing their tasks and how much they teach us. From ‘The Impact of Emigration into Brazil and its Social Impact on Japanese Emigrants’ … to ‘Holland’s Multiculturalism and its Effect on the Everyday Dutch Language’ (I tell you … fascinating, fascinating, fascinating!! Did you know??? Did you?).I’m learning a lot.
I had told them, granted, that this is a topic close to my heart, being an immigrant myself and essentially still am, living away from home … UK? (Where I was born and raised), Cyprus? (where my parents originally emigrated to the UK from…). These topics need much discussion. I share with you, again, the blogs I wrote whilst in Kosovo, triggered by my students’ essays and that lovely picture when the steps, too (in on one of them), hadn’t yet been painted so vibrantly outside the apartment block where we lived. Enjoy!!
