Most of us grew up watching the discovery channel and witnessing amazing wildlife, space, and ocean. Discovery was my favorite channel which showed a lot of documentaries and real-life stories. As a kid I was always fascinated by how the world would be inside water and what it would be in the space, well I am not sure if I can go to space for now however how about I take a dive, take all of you with me and see the world inside water. Oh wait, there is one problem, I didn’t know how to swim so the dive thing went out of the picture, and maybe it wasn’t a priority for me. Then one of my friend Syed who happens to be an aeronautical engineer who works for Fly Dubai and of course, a professional men's physique winner shared his experience about his journey of Scuba and there it was, someone I know who did it and yeeee even he didn't know how to swim :). He is an absolutely amazing personality and inspires me a lot. I asked him multiple questions regarding Scuba and he patiently answered everything in detail and guided me on how to go for it. Indeed he is one of the personalities who pushes me to jump off my comfort zone and give a different positive dimension of thought altogether, I will definitely write about him as well soon but today is my Scuba experience.
So I got the contacts of a PADI instructor from him and eventually enrolled in the PADI Dive course. So we had to complete 37 drills and two full dives to get the certificate. I along with one of my friend - Cruz would walk with gears at Kite beach and did our drill. The water inside wasn’t clear so I wasn’t able to understand why am I getting into this. You have to carry a heavy oxygen cylinder on your back and walk all the way to the beach with gears and dive. We completed the course in 3 weeks' time under the hot sun in the month of March and now was the time for real dive.
The second stage was to dive at Fujairah to complete the course so we drove early morning on one of the weekends and yes?I was scared as well as excited at the same time. We reached the site, boarded the boat and the boat took us at full speed to the site where we had to dive. OMG seas are huge, I have been to the beach many times but it looked?huge today, maybe because I was going to jump in the middle of the sea. It was a shiny day and the sun was smiling at us. The water was blue like WAOOOO and it was water all around us. Yes, I was scared. We pulled up gears and were ready to dive, I was supposed to fall behind into water from the boat as standard dive instruction. Imagine, you are in the middle of the sea, you don’t know what?is inside waiting for you and on the top, you have to fall behind with a heavy cylinder on your back. I had zillions of thoughts but as they always say I took a deep breath and I said I LOVE YOU MOM ( when you are scared mom always pops in our head ! ) and I fell.
I hit the water from behind, went inside, and then rolled up and again came on to the surface, oh ya I was alive. Now Cruz and the instructor jumped in the water too.
I couldn’t see much at first then there was a rope attached to the base of sea rock and by holding the rope pushing ourselves we slowly went down, into the dark expecting that everything will be fine.

We were at the bed of the ocean and then we had to trim our buoyancy and swim just above the ground. It was a bit difficult at first but finally, after a couple of tries, we did it. Yes, finally I was on a sea bed floating around, and first, ever I witness the world underwater. It was mesmerizing, the water was crystal clear and you can see colorful fishes swimming next to you and toward you. They were super cute! It was altogether a different feeling which is really hard to put in words. I could feel every breath?I was taking and the beauty around was absolutely fantastic. When I looked up, I saw the Sun, which looked like a white snowball over the surface of the ocean. It was very peaceful and you just live in present, nothing matters just feel the environment and your breathing. You feel so calm and all your worries and stress are gone at that moment. You literally LIVE IN PRESENT and enjoy it.
We were inside for almost 30mins and saw a lot of fish and a few sunk small boats and jet skis. Slowly as we saw the oxygen level of our cylinder getting low, we had to approach at the surface. Finally, we all came out, everyone was quiet and had a smile. Yes, we did it. It was absolutely amazing feeling going so deep into the sea on our own.
During this whole journey, the most important thing I learned was " LIVE in present" because in Scuba all you care about is your breathing and appreciating what you have.
Scuba has a lot of benefits like it increases your blood circulation, increases emotional well-being, helps to release stress, and many more but what I strongly feel is it changes something good in all of us, and later I realized that the Padi course I took in spite all the hustle and classes, multiple exercises underwater, it was totally WORTH IT.
So, everyone, you can go scuba or not its your choice but find time for yourself and LIVE IN PRESENT! Because if you are breathing then you are blessed, my friend!?
