intentions + action = results

intentions + action = results

This week’s ProductYou Accountability Community was Yay! Ugh! Oh! Fab!

Our discussion perfectly demonstrated the ups-and-downs in the journey to finding that elusive next role.

While excitingly, several people have been securing interviews (YAY!!) there’s been such a mixed-bag of next steps, it defies a pattern.

Only one person reported receiving any feedback.? In her case, it was invaluable.

Why? Because the interviewer took time to praise and encourage; provided pointed, actionable feedback, and explained that while the candidate wasn’t a great fit for that role, they would be ideal in others.? Result!

Most Accountability Community members have been left wondering.

No one expects feedback on all interviews, especially if a substantial number of people are in the mix.? But everyone is entitled to receive some feedback, even just an outcome.

Alas, this doesn’t always happen, meaning a branding opportunity is missed by the organisation and a learning opportunity goes astray for the candidate.

This too is a result, just not great for anyone.

- - -

A clear pattern has been emerging though, for most of the group.?

The power of Intention + Action, resulting in improvement, levelling up skills and capability and moving closer to each person’s goals is a clearly-emerging trend.

---

What’s Intention anyway?

An intention is an idea you plan on carrying out ie your goal or objective.

Securing a great new role, is the intention for most people in this group.? Along the way though, there are several stated intentions to support or expedite this outcome:

  • Learn a new skill
  • Get clear on your vision
  • Connect with new people
  • Undertake informational interviews
  • Write regular thought leadership pieces
  • Retrain to ensure market-ready knowledge and skills
  • Etc etc

?It’s easy/easier to set an intention and then do little or nothing about it.

?But this group isn’t like that.?

What everyone shares is the understanding that in order to achieve your desired intention, you need to act. It’s only in taking action, practising, chipping away, that you’ll delight yourself by suddenly realising you’ve achieved your result.?

When you work on the right things consistently, you’ll ‘suddenly’ achieve what you set out to do.

If you stop taking tiny steps on your path towards what’s next, guess what? You’ll still be where you are today.?

But, if you consistently move towards your result, through taking tiny steps, often, pretty soon, you’ll get there, and be ready to move onto your next intention.?

Skill-building and accomplishment are the hallmarks of this cool group of people.? Some of the great results of people’s intentions have resulted in:

  • Linkedin Live thought-leadership presentations
  • Fitter bodies and calmer minds
  • Speaking opportunities
  • Writing success
  • New credentials
  • Great holidays
  • Etc etc

?So if you’re thinking what’s next, how can I get there, we recommend setting an Intention, creating an action plan (fueled by tiny steps) and before you know it, Voila! Done, Achieved, Succeeded, Well done. And then you can ask, What’s Next?

Keep going.? Everything gets easier with a desire and a plan.

Simple by true Penelope Barr. A few years ago I was passionate (read obsessed) about the relationship between intentions and actions. I realised that it was common for someone to measure themselves by their intentions and others by their actions. Combining the two leads to results which in turn are unmistakably measurable.
