Like trees.

Ok, I'm learning to drive in the UK and ancient trees were the main obstacle.

So the road was built around the trees. A driver must stop, pause, and give the tree space before driving on. Local drivers know inherently where these trees are and have grown used to them.

For those in leadership, surprises like trees in the road come up. How do we handle them?

1. Know the lay of the land. Be in touch with your key numbers, team, and communicate daily. This is key in a remote or even hybrid team. Be aware of the hidden trees, dangers, and blindspots.
2. Be prepared to pivot. Be prepared to pause the plan when you need to. A plan is only as good as what it aims to accomplish.
3. Keep your eye on the vision. Keep your eyes on the vision of where your leadership, company or organization is headed.
