INTENTIONAL DESIGN FOR YOUR LIFE, WORK & SPACE

in·ten·tion·al. done on purpose; deliberate.

When we think about intentionally designing our lives, including our work and spaces, we don't always think about how they can be interwoven and support us on our journey of discovery, change and growth.

I’ll share a tip with you that will empower you to continue to dream big and unearth all of the desires you’ve had sitting in the back seat of your life. Then take practical action on them.

When I was in college studying design, I learned something designers know well — to begin with the end in mind. The vision, goal, process, design, product, service, experience, desired outcome and the optimal feeling state that rides along with what you're trying to build, create or experience. Then work backwards.

The whole picture may not be clear, that's ok. Don't let that trip you up. If you have no idea what your vision is, go with the optimal feeling state and the energy you'd like to experience. Sit in that positive energy and ask yourself important questions to get out of the haze and into your intention.

  • What's most important to me...really?
  • What would feel more balanced, what’s not?
  • Where do I need to dig deeper, learn more, overcome challenges, and sit with uncertainty?
  • Where are things flowing and if not, why?
  • What’s the energy in and around me?
  • How could I improve things in my life and the design of my space?

Your core values, lined up with positive intentions and feeling states of what it be like once achieved, along with deliberate action, will underpin the process. Identify a few steps you can take right now and complete them. Once you do, the next few steps will show up. If you notice getting lost in the process and experiencing a bit of ease or enjoyment, you'll know you're on to something.

The path will be experiential and iterative, not set in stone, leaving room for creative expression and flow. Be in the present moment, allowing, versus having a fixed mindset about how things should be. When you're on track, you'll feel it in your gut/body, because it will feel lighter and more expansive.

The intention behind our efforts is very important, because it's energetic—whether we are designing our lives, space, business, or anything for that matter. If there is positive energy, and some form of excitement that's aligned with your deepest values and truths, lean into that. Then begin experimenting. You’ll learn along the way.

Until then, go boldly.
