INTENTION VS REALITY

Do you remember the telephone game? You know, the one where you share a message and it gets passed from person to person.?
Something interesting happens when the person at the end of the line shares the message.?
For some reason, their interpretation of the message doesn't match the original one.?
It's as if the original message got lost in translation somewhere along the line.
This doesn't just happen in the game of telephone. It happens far too often in daily life.
Your message doesn't always come across the way you intended.
That's what we're exploring in this week's SWAGGER Sense.
The Spin is Real
We frequently forget that we're a product of our past.?
Our life experiences shape who we are and how we show up today. They also heavily influence our beliefs and mindset.?
Why should you care about this? Well, it's these life experiences and the meaning you assign to them that impact how messages are received.?
Your brain works to make sense of things. It stores all of your experiences and memories for future use.?
When you receive new information, your brain compares it to what it already has filed away and makes connections.?
So, for example, your brain can spin a message in a negative direction based on past experience even if the person sharing the information didn't intend it that way.?
See how that works??
The Only Way
The problem is that we don't usually have the foggiest idea that this is happening when we share information.
We're not privy to what connections are going on in the other person's brain and that puts us at a distinct disadvantage.?
The only way to truly know how your message was received is to ask.
Asking the right questions will play a vital role in the quality of information you get back.?
One of the best ways to do this is to ask them to share the information in their own words.?
Doing so forces them to not just regurgitate words but interpret what they heard or read.?
You can also ask what resonated most with them or might have rubbed them the wrong way.?
One thing to always keep in mind is that clarity must be sought, it can't be assumed. ?
Questions For You
I've been pretty independent my whole life. You might remember that I recently shared the fact that I'm a lone wolf personality.?
That means that I'm not that great at asking for help.?
I work hard to figure things out on my own. However, there are times when I just don't know what I don't know and the only way to find out is to ask.?
So, here it goes… I'm asking for your help. I don't do this lightly and it's quite difficult for me. ?
I love numbers because they don't lie, they tell their own story.
What the numbers tell me is that you don't fancy clicking links and answering questions.?
I get that and I do understand.?
That being said, using these tools is the best way for me to gather information in a safe, anonymous, and useful way.?
That's why I'm asking for your help. My ask is this…Would you please answer the following questions using the link below?
I've placed questions here so that you know what I'm asking before you click.?
Help me, help you. Isn't that a line from a movie??
Question 1:
Which of the following are you most interested in learning how to do?
Question 2:
What is the one challenge you're facing right now that if resolved would make the biggest difference in your life?
Thank you! I'm truly grateful for you!
