INTENTION: Do you have it?

Recently I was engrossed in reading an interview of an Indian cricket star of past years who is now mentoring the Indian cricket team. Those of you who do not know what Cricket is, it’s a very popular game in Indian subcontinent and enjoys a status of religion. He made an interesting observation about some of the players that they are technically sound about the game, have perfect fitness & motivation to play, but still not able to do well.

Now how often does it happen in our professional careers?

We feel that we have the highest pedigree, have a perfect platform & motivation to do well, however the career success does not suggest so, always.

Most of the times we are handling a lot of noise around us , the noise of peer pressure , the noise of “ to be or not to be” , the noise of uncertainty , the noise of complexity, the noise of your own expectations  and so on. Amidst all the noise one handles, one forgets an important aspect is to work on your “INTENTION”.

INTENTION is the genesis of every dream. INTENTION possesses a creative force that enables to fulfill the dream. Here the INTENTION I am referring to is not the good intention or bad intention, INTENTION here is referred to an impulse which is generated in your consciousness that makes you aware of achieving your Big Hairy Audacious Goals. Planting that seed of INTENTION in your consciousness and becoming aware of it prevents you from getting distracted from the noise.

When Osamu Suzuki ( Chairman of Suzuki Group) way back in 2001 made a speech to bunch of us in Suzuki’s head quarter in Hamamatsu , a beautiful city in Japan , he remarked a popular Japanese phrase to possess “ yaru ki “ , Yaru means in Japanese  “ to do “ and “ Ki” denotes heart. What he was referring to was INTENTION, a deep desire and as the classic Indian Vedic text known as the Upanishads declares, “You are what your deepest desire is. As your desire is, so is your intention. As your intention is, so is your will. As your will is, so is your deed. As your deed is, so is your destiny.”

So when Anil Kumble (the popular and successful Indian cricketing idol) makes an observation and advises the players to work on their INTENTION is very profound. INTENTION to go beyond, to give your more than 200% in whatever you do , comes from deepest desire. I get reminded of the fictional character Yoda (star war), when he says “To do or not to do, there is nothing like to try “is a decisive thought process.

It’s an ongoing process for every one to figure out a restful awareness under which one can plant the seeds of deepest desire resulting in strong INTENTION. There is no one formula fit all, because if there was one then everyone would have swallowed the pill of strong INTENTION.

Strong INTENTION comes from state of contentment than from the state of lacking. So when a player or a professional like us creates intention from a base of contentment, it will outlast the onslaught of doubts and criticisms. Staying centered and refusing to be unnerved by the noise around you and other people’s doubts could be a key for harnessing power of strong INTENTION.

As Paulo Coelho says “when you want something, the whole universe conspires to help you to get it”, what it essentially says is as Deepak chopra puts in “let the universe handle the details”. Our focused intentions can set the infinite organizing power of the universe in motion.

Release your INTENTION in to the fertile ground of pure potential & it will bloom.

Beautifully written sir. When it comes to organisations it is important to convert the organisation's vision and mission is to it's employees' INTENTION. There comes the importance of 'communicating the shared mission/vision' down the organizational structure which many leaders fail to do effectively..
