Exploring the Intense Attachment of parents and children
THE link between parent and child is one of the most complex and challenging relationships any of us will ever encounter.
And that deep level of trust, understanding, love and the many other darker emotions that accompany it are explored in Intense Attachment, the tenth anniversary production from international dance, theatre and film company The Wayne Sables Project.
Intense Attachment has been created by internationally acclaimed Doncaster born performer, choreographer and film maker Wayne Sables and is performed by two dancers, Keira Mari Martin and Chris Bradley.
Intense Attachment is a deeply personal journey into the heart of the connection between parent and child, inspired by Wayne’s own very different but equally intense attachments to his two young daughters, Sofia and Eva.
In a site specific multimedia work that uses traditional venues in unconventional ways, utilising technology, movement, sculpture, film and sound in non-traditional performing spaces and there is just one rule for audiences - leave your phone switched on!
And in another break with the usual conventions of performance, audiences are asked to pay what they can to see the work at any of the venues where it is being performed.
“I’m saying no to the policy of £12 tickets and everything that goes with it!” says Wayne.
“I don’t want to be exclusive - I want people people to come and get a real experience.
“And if they want to film that experience on their cameras then that is all part of what Intense Attachments is about.
“At every venue there will be a live stream, which is what we did when we ran a trial of the piece last year - and we had more than 1,000 people from all over the world participating.
“I want people of all backgrounds to be able to engage in the work, whether that’s via the live performance or film. The important thing is that you should engage with it - and not being able to afford a ticket shouldn’t stop you doing that!”
Intense Attachment is funded by Arts Council England Yorkshire and can be seen throughout 2016 at the, Slung Low Performance Venue in Leeds, Bradford’s Theatre in the Mill, 2’s Company in Halifax and Cast in Doncaster.
It is produced by Spin Arts and directed and filmed by Wayne Sables, with music by Hayley Youell, costume/set design by Victoria Pratt of Invisible Flock, live streaming by Flightcase Films, and technology by Ben Eaton of Invisible Flock.
