Intelsat IS-603 Re-boost Anniversary
Today marks exactly 26 years since three NASA astronauts were able to capture the Intelsat IS-603 satellite and bring it back to the shuttle cargo bay where it was fitted with a new Perigee Kick Motor. The satellite, which had been stranded in Low Earth orbit following a launch in March 1990, was "re-boosted" to the geostationary orbit where it provided 23 years of valuable service. This was an extraordinary accomplishment which was only made possible thanks to the great collaboration between NASA, Hughes Aircraft and Intelsat.
