Intelligent Chatbots: a Search Driven Interface to Conversation Driven Interface

What is Intelligent Chatbots?

An intelligent Chatbot is a virtual agent in a means of computer program that carry out intelligent conversation with one or more human using voice or text as medium. Chatbots either use a set of rules or artificial intelligence (AI) capability to operate. The AI powered Chatbots understand natural languages, understand from the conversations, and continuously get intelligent. Chatbots is nothing new, it has been around since 1960s since the launching of ELIZA, a psychoanalyze bots for people. Over the years it has improved a lot to gain market traction among individuals, enterprises, and industries. The year 2014 was the wake up year for the Chatbots industry and it’s now everywhere. It’s a new trend in AI and every company wants to build their own bots. These days most of the Chabots are powered by AI to answer simple and obvious questions of the users such as weather forecast. The unlike but not uncommon case is using human to answer difficult queries along with Chatbots. The Chatbot learns from past conversations over internet and adopt better responses over time.

Chatbots to Redefine HCI

This is irony that Facbook messenger and WhatsApp will be the main entry point of internet overtaking Google in next five to ten years.

The conclusion sounds crazy but the AI and NLP capabilities within Chatbot will make this major shift happen using the massive data sets that are gathering now. Facebook and WhatsApp will come up with advanced NLP engines to lift themselves up in the information gathering value chain in next decade. Using their stored datasets and online repository, they will put together things accurately for higher value decision making and will take people away from using Google search. This trend will change entire human computer interaction (HCI) pattern from search driven interface to conversation driven interface.
