Models and the RAG Trade

This is an interesting overview of the evolution of LLMs and the relationship with generative AI. The author suggest five micro ages of massive models:

  1. Massive models that know everything can perform any task you throw at them. Try them and see!
  2. OK, the massive models only know a certain amount, and you’ll probably want to pair them with a human to check the responses, but still….. WOW eh?
  3. Right, so if you want precise responses, you’ll need to use your own data as well as the massive models to make that happen
  4. Yeah, that will mean having a good handle on your own data. Have you tried maybe putting it into a semantic search?
  5. Now that the search has fixed everything, you only need to use the massive model to assemble the response, so you don’t need to worry about any knowledge deficiencies. Plus, it means you can limit the number of times you ask anything!

Process Mining Tip of the Week: Is the Future Always Better?

Celonis has used a particular dashboard UI, Analyses, since the early days back in 2017. It has been improved and expanded. Recently, they have introduced additional versions, entitled Views. This is a precursor to full Object Centric Process Mining (OCPM). Should you use it? Read on to see James’ advice (and sign up for weekly updates).

6 Ways to Improve Order-to-Cash With Process Mining

This is a great use case for process mining. Process mining can identify bottlenecks in OTC processes. New OTC bottlenecks can appear as company and customer habits change. For example, shipping products to customers may take longer than it used to because the company is having trouble hiring delivery truck drivers.

Process mining can help identify these bottlenecks, said Bhrugu Pange, managing director of technology services at AArete, a global management consulting firm located in Chicago. Users can then determine how to address them. Read about the other five here.

Transforming ECM With Intuitive AI

Artificial intelligence’s (AI) emergence as a transformation catalyst has redefined the landscape of industries and processes. A remarkable advancement within the AI domain is intuitive AI — a branch granting machines the ability to generate content autonomously. This pioneering technology is revolutionizing content management practices, with a pronounced emphasis on extracting data from documents. It includes AI systems that can comprehend natural language, engage with humans and adapt to diverse contexts and situations. Read more.

False friends or good ends? The CIO’s four-point guide to navigating technology trends

As we are all confronted with an increasing deluge of products and technologies, it becomes ever more difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff. This article from McKinsey is a good read to help you decide if a trend is relevant to your business. The four attributes boil down to disruptive business value, independence, connectivity, and extensibility. Start parsing trends today.

Cautiously Optimistic

A report from a recent trade show in London shows that businesses are continuing to invest in data analytics, but also genAI. This short report highlights many issues we see with clients – concerns about governance included. Read more.

Solving Real User Problems with Generative AI: Slack’s Jackie Rocca

This podcast (and transcript) interview by MITSloan shows how collaboration platform Slack is beginning to use genAI. As a product leader, Jackie had continually heard from users that they were experiencing a common challenge: It was a struggle to keep up with the pace of information and prioritize where to focus their attention and energy. So she looked to AI as a potential source of solutions and is now leading a team that’s focused on launching AI-driven features to address user pain points. The Slack AI team’s work is already helping customers take advantage of the wealth of knowledge within Slack exchanges by providing features such as channel recaps, thread summaries, and the ability to ask questions to surface information that’s embedded within conversations.
