Intelligent Automation News #23

Back to the basics to get to the future.

Look around your office; how much paper do you see? If you’re like most organizations, there’s still more than enough to choke the efficiency of your business processes. If you are unsure of the value of digitization and intelligent automation, you won’t be by the end of this issue.

Celonis has also written a good overview of a process-first strategy and Dutch farmers are mad at Microsoft.

Enterprise Automation: What You Need to Know About a Process-First Strategy

Doculabs has been in the business of automation from the beginning – back when it was just called workflow and BPM. “Enterprise automation” is new lyrics set to the same tune (and, I must say, with continually improving new technology from Celonis and all of the other vendors in the intelligent automation and process mining spaces). This post from Celonis is a great overview if you’re ready to start focusing on your business processes. Read about a process-first strategy.

AI Revolutionizing Document Management: Unlocking the 7 Possibilities

While it’s important and necessary to pay attention to new technologies, it’s equally important to remember that older technology is still useful and needed. Take document management. Every intelligent automation implementation needs basic document management as part of a system that routes documents to where they need to be. This article explores 7 ways that a combination of AI and DM can improve operational efficiency. From the article:

“Accurate and Quicker Extraction of Information?– An AI-powered DMS can accurately and more quickly extract information currently hidden in individual documents or files without reviewing each one individually or manually. This includes extracting contact details, financial numbers, product codes, etc., essential for various business operations like customer service or marketing campaigns.” Read about the other 6 here.

6 Reasons Why Document Automation Makes Your Business More Efficient

Most business processes rely on documents. Many of those documents – and their accompanying workflows – remain manual and paper-based. There’s no automation without removing paper from the process. This article provides a solid overview of the problems paper documents cause and then details 6 reasons you should convert paper to digital documents. Become more efficient.

Four Strategies for Starting a Digital Banking Revolution

Ron Cameron discusses the need – and difficulty – for banks to evolve into digital institutions. He notes this movement is “much more involved than designing a slick website and installing a few e-commerce plug-ins. A successful modernization project has a lot of moving parts and challenges that must be overcome.” Technology will be part of this, of course, equally or more important is developing the right team. Become a more efficient bank.

Opportunity Abounds for AP Automation

Accounts payable (and the procurement process in general) is ripe for automation. We’ve written about it here and Celonis is also focused on improving the execution of procure-to-pay processes. This article from Christina Robbins starts off with a surprising stat:

“I was recently shocked to read that CPA Practice Advisor reports only?10% of accounts payable?(AP) operations are fully automated. I’m not sure how this is possible when we’ve been offering digitization and automation to AP teams for years. But, I do know that this represents a huge business opportunity. In fact, the AP automation market size was estimated at $2.9 billion in 2021 and will grow to?$7.13 billion by 2030.” Read about the opportunities here.

Survey Findings: Companies Recognize Power of Intelligent Automation

Having trouble moving your organization’s intelligent automation efforts forward? You aren’t alone. Research conducted for Conduit Incorporated shows opportunities for intelligent automation are many; as are the difficulties:

  • 50% of respondents cite too many manual processes as an inefficiency in workflow;
  • 40% of respondents point to convoluted processes or workflows, as key business challenges.

We see this in our client engagements (and have since the beginning). More research here.

These Angry Dutch Farmers Really Hate Microsoft

The title of this article caught my eye and the topic is something many of us don’t often think about – the need for huge, energy-hungry data centers to power intelligent automation, and everything else in IT. It could be a new NIMBY issue as the need for computing power continues to grow. Here’s the article’s opening:

“AS SOON AS?Lars Ruiter steps out of his car, he is confronted by a Microsoft security guard, who is already seething with anger. Ruiter, a local councilor, has parked in the rain outside a half-finished Microsoft data center that rises out of the flat North Holland farmland.?He wants to see the construction site.?The guard, who recognizes Ruiter from a previous visit when he brought a TV crew here, says that’s not allowed. Within minutes, the argument has escalated, and the guard has his hand around Ruiter’s throat.”?Read more on Wired.
