No fooling, today we have some interesting thoughts and news about process mining:
At Doculabs, we are committed to applying our process mining expertise to assist our clients as they work to optimize their business processes. The data process mining reveals is crucial to those efforts. This technology is a foundational tool for many intelligent automation initiatives.
In honor of the day, here’s a link to Def Leppard’s “Foolin’.”
Enjoy the beginning of April, everyone.
Gartner’s First Process Mining Magic Quadrant
At Doculabs, we aren’t surprised that Celonis is the leader in their first process mining Magic Quadrant. There are some surprises, such as long-time document imaging/capture vendor ABBYY also being in the leader quadrant. Gartner also believes broader adoption of process mining is coming, “By 2025, 80% of organizations driven by the expectations of cost reduction and automation-derived enhanced process efficiency will embed process mining capabilities in at least 10% of their business operations.” Here’s a link to the reprint.
What Is Decision Making?
Making the correct decision for your IT infrastructure is crucial for your organization’s success. Recent research from McKinsey shows that executives spend an average of 40% of their time making decisions. Many believe they don’t spend that time well. This article from McKinsey provides background on decision fatigue and offers strategies for making better decisions, faster.
From the article: “Leaders are growing increasingly frustrated with broken decision-making processes, slow deliberations, and uneven decision-making outcomes.?Fewer than half?of the 1,200 respondents of a McKinsey survey report that decisions are timely, and 61 percent say that at least half the time they spend making decisions is ineffective.”
I’ll also say that, based on the last three years of experience with Doculabs’ clients, using process mining can be a useful aid for making the right decisions regarding business processes. Making decisions is still difficult, but having relevant and timely data means you have a better chance to make a good one. Make better decisions.
Using Case Management to Strengthen Customer Experience Within CCM
This article from KnowledgeLake 's Jason Burian puts an interesting spin on customer communications. Customers, especially younger customers, overwhelmingly attempt to self-serve when attempting to resolve issues. Jason makes the, er, case for applying case management in a new way. From the article:
“Modern, digital-first customers don’t want to rely on the vendor to open communications. They also don’t want to be forced to dial up a call center. Instead, they want a solution they can use to access their core information, solve their own problems and then go on their way — ideally without communicating with a human from the company at all.” Strengthen your customer communications.
AI’s Well and Good, But You Still Need Enterprise Content Management
Recent headlines on generative AI, digital twins, edge computing and other cutting-edge technologies may at times appear to suggest content management problems are a thing of the past. But don't throw out your enterprise content management (ECM) system just yet.
In Reworked's?2022 State of the Digital Workplace,?65% of organizations surveyed said document management is the most important technology in their digital arsenal, and traditional email the most effective communication and collaboration tool they have. More on ECM and AI.

As Hiring Freezes and Layoffs Hit, Tech Teams Struggle to Do More With Less
Your intelligent automation initiatives are going to be harder, if not impossible, to pull off. Recent research shows this tension: “More than two-thirds (67%) of technology leaders surveyed by Pluralsight agreed that hiring freezes and layoffs across IT, software and data teams had resulted in their teams taking on more responsibility. Despite this, 85% of respondents to Pluralsight’s survey said their organization was either actively engaged in, or planning, a digital transformation project in 2023.” Learn more about tech team challenges.
The Evolution of Process Mining: A look at the Journey and What’s Next.
Celonis continues to push the technology’s boundaries with innovations like object-centric process mining, a consumer-grade user experience and an open platform strategy. In just over two decades, process mining has gone from an academic discipline to business transformation necessity. As Vaish Sashikanth, Celonis Chief Engineering Officer, has said, process mining is ”poised to become the trusted, daily digital assistant for every business.”
