The End of Tech Glory Days
Longtime industry analyst Alan Pelz-Sharpe discusses the fact that the tech industry has been pushing technology its customers aren’t interested in. What’s the mean for generative AI? From the article, “The hype surrounding GenAI mirrors the exaggerated tales of yore. While vendors tout its omnipresence, its practical application remains limited to mundane tasks such as document summarization. The disparity between perception and reality underscores a broader trend within?the tech bubble—a disconnection from tangible outcomes.” Read more.

Process Mapping Methods: Types, Techniques, and Examples
Going back to the basics, transforming business workflows begins with a process map. This post from Celonis looks at “some different types of process maps, the kinds of business processes you can capture with them, and a look at how process mining and process intelligence are changing the game and enabling businesses to analyze, improve, and monitor their processes, so they understand how their business runs and how it could run better.” Read more.
6 Critical Questions to Ask Before Your Process Mining Renewal [Tip of the Week]
Many of Doculabs’ clients are reaching the point of their first process mining renewal. Here’s our first tip for your evaluation process:
1. Are Your Current Focus Areas Still Relevant? Start by conducting a comprehensive review of the processes and business areas currently under using process mining. Consider whether there have been shifts in business strategy or new operational pain points that need addressing. For example, if your initial focus was on order-to-cash processes, but now supply chain optimization has become a priority due to recent disruptions, you need to ensure your solution can effectively analyze supply chain data. Technically, check if your solution supports the integration of new data sources relevant to your shifting focus areas, such as IoT data from logistics operations or real-time inventory management systems. OCR vs. IDP: What’s the Difference
You can’t automate your business if your documents remain on paper. OCR (optical character recognition) is a key technology that enables documents to be ingested into business processes. IDP (intelligent document processing) is a much broader industry segment that includes OCR. Smart IT professionals understand the difference between these tools and how they can be used to advance your business objections. This is a great introduction to both technologies, from one of the oldest companies in this particular industry. Read more.

We’ve reached the stage of articles about why AI implementations fail. This is a solid article and provides sound insights into what you SHOULD do with AI implementations. The amusing part? Anyone who has been in IT for any time at all will recognize all 6 reasons for failure because businesses have been making these mistakes with IT from the beginning: lack of problem definition, inadequate integration with existing systems, poorly collected requirements and lack of success metrics, no awareness of potential risks, lack of industry-specific understanding, lack of adequate preparation for people in your company.
