Intel Unleashed: Ecosystem collaboration will be key for IDM 2.0 strategy

Intel is the world’s largest manufacturer of semiconductors, a top developer of process technology and the leading provider of silicon globally. We are now unleashing and providing those very technologies, that make Intel what it is today, to other semiconductor and system companies and enabling them to develop leadership products in their respective markets.

In March 2021, our CEO Pat Gelsinger announced “IDM 2.0”, a strategy that represents the combination of three components that will enable the company to drive sustained technology and product leadership.

  • Intel’s global, internal factory network for at-scale manufacturing
  • Expanded use of third-party foundry capacity
  • Building a world-class foundry business, Intel Foundry Services (IFS)

Since the time IDM 2.0 was announced, we have committed US$20 billion to build two new fabs in Arizona and another US$3.5 billion to expand the manufacturing of advanced semiconductor packaging technologies in our New Mexico operations. We are also engaged with various governments around the world to build more cutting-edge capacity. IFS will have superior capacity and supply resilience by leveraging our global footprint. It is today engaged with over 50 potential customers across verticals from automotive to high-performance compute and cloud service providers, which tells us our IDM2.0 strategy is resonating well with the industry.

Intel India will play a key role in the execution of our IDM 2.0 strategy, given our engineering strengths in IP, front and back-end design and advanced packaging design. I am excited about the opportunity this creates for India’s fabless ecosystem to build cutting-edge products using differentiated assets that IFS provides. IFS will also leverage the rich tech ecosystem in the country to build new offerings like IPs and industry standard tools for global needs. I look forward to partnering with you all in this new and exciting phase of #IntelUnleashed.

Stay tuned!
