Half Of Intel Jobs in Columbus May Only Need A High School Diploma

Bill LaFayette, a Columbus economist, and Columbus Business First reviewed Intel’s potential jobs to provide a breakdown of what they may be looking for.

Approximately half of the initial Intel jobs coming to Columbus may only require a high school diploma. So, many people across the Central Ohio workforce may be able to find jobs working at Intel’s New Albany factories. Intel will need electrical and electromechanical assemblers, semiconductor processing technicians, inspectors, and testers, plus assemblers and fabricators – all of which may only require a high school diploma. Between Intel and?Columbus State Community College,?workers can gain the training they need to work at Intel in New Albany.

News outlets are reporting an expected 3,000 initial workers will be needed for the project, but more factories are expected to come to the site bringing even more jobs. The average salary is reported to be $135,000, which is 2.5 times the median household income in Columbus.

LaFayette also speculates that Intel will likely “cast their net pretty wide to staff up” by bringing in workers from across Ohio and from other states.
