Intel and Apple to be the First Customers of TSMCs 3nm Process
What’s the buzz??Intel and AMD?revealed recently that they would be the first clients of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) 3nm technology.
What triggered the innovation??While the concept of CPUs outdates Intel, Intel first put an entire CPU onto a single chip. Since then, Intel has both designed CPUs and manufactured them in their foundries, which has arguably helped Intel remain at the forefront of semiconductor technology.
Problem solved!?Many in the business have stated that the idea of process nodes is becoming irrelevant and that comparing process nodes from various companies might be unfair. Intel has stated that it may relabel its chip process nodes to appear less behind TSMC, which strongly confirms the irrelevancy of process node numbers. Process nodes refer to the shortest length of a transistor's gate.
Innovation Benefits:?TSMC has revealed some information about their N3 (3nm) process, with most of the figures being compared to their N5 (5nm) process. According to the N5 technology, the N3 process promises a 70 percent logic density gain, a 15 percent speed boost at the same power, and a 30 percent power reduction at the same speed, according to TSMC.
?Despite signals of falling demand for computers and cell phones, TSMC, the world's largest contract chip producer, stated that demand for its capacity will stay high throughout the year. The new 3nm processors will feature enhanced performance capabilities and better battery life. The 3nm M3 chips will power 2023 Macs as well as iPhone models
