"The Integration of Human Spirituality and Intelligence in the Age of AI"

As AI progresses, what kind of human will lead the next generation? AI has already started relieving humans of repetitive and unnecessary tasks, and technological advancements have been moving forward at an unprecedented rate, even before humans have had a chance to establish their values. The COVID-19 pandemic has further accelerated changes in how people view work, unnecessary processes, labor, and their perspective on life.

Since the industrial revolution, the development of materials, machinery, and material capitalism have separated the spiritual and intellectual domains of human beings. This has resulted in a tragedy for humanity, as human intelligence and spirituality cannot be separated. Whether considered as one or two, they are integral parts of being human. For example, breaking down and analyzing human abilities one by one is inhumane. The deficiency of spirituality should be filled by intelligence, and the deficiency of intelligence should be filled by spirituality. AI challenges the materialistic way of thinking that has emerged since the industrial revolution, and the concept of human "ability and performance" is now being replaced by artificial intelligence.

So what should humans do now? Rather than looking at the current situation, we should ask ourselves what our original purpose was. According to the Bible, the first task of humans was to manage all things in the world and give them meaning. They named everything. In Korean mythology, ruling over people was seen as the king's job, and that rule was described as work that made humans happy and prosperous.

Therefore, is the work of humans to make people happy and rule them? What abilities do humans need to understand each other? "Agreement, empathy, understanding, warmth, togetherness, inclusiveness, wisdom..." These are all things that AI cannot possess. How can humans acquire these abilities? Shouldn't we go back to the essence of what makes us human?

Perhaps the integration of spirituality and intelligence is necessary for humans. Human spirituality is not only found in religious groups. Religion is a model that has established commands and rules solely for the sake of humanity's spiritual side. Intelligence also does not necessarily have to be regulated by schools or graduation certificates. It is like a driver's license that shows that you can drive.

Human spirituality and intelligence cannot be separated; we must recover our true humanity. The development of AI technology challenges us to reflect on the mistakes made by humanity after the industrial revolution and to take this as an opportunity to think about what kind of people we are and what values we should pursue.
