Integrating Knowledge for Mediterranean Ecosystem Restoration: Challenges and Collaborative Solutions from a Socio-Ecological Perspective

The Mediterranean Ecosystems, a global biodiversity hotspot, faces significant challenges in ecosystem conservation and restoration. This session will explore the multifaceted threats to these ecosystems, including climate change, land-use changes, invasive species, and air pollution. Our main aim is to assess the current ecological state of Mediterranean ecosystems, identify the primary conservation challenges, and discuss potential solutions for restoring these semi-arid ecosystems.

By bringing together experts in long-term ecological research from different countries in the Mediterranean region we will share case studies, identify effective strategies and innovative approaches to mitigate these threats, promote interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange among researchers, and discuss actionable recommendations for future conservation and restoration efforts in the region. Key topics will include habitat restoration techniques, biodiversity conservation, enhancing the provision of ecosystem services, and the role of community engagement in sustaining these ecosystems.

This session promises to be an opportunity to exchange latest research findings, share both successful and unsuccessful restoration experiences while identifying the factors that contributed to these outcomes, and foster collaborations aiming at enhancing the resilience and sustainability of Mediterranean ecosystems.

Submit Your Abstract by January 17, 2025 via ARPHA Conference Abstracts (ACA)!

After the abstracts collection is published (eLTER Science Conference 2025 Proceedings), ACA disseminates, indexes and archives all abstracts. Each abstract is registered at Crossref and assigned with its own DOI. Further, the authors are welcome to add video recordings of their conference talks or graphic files of poster presentations, which shall be visualised on the abstract’s webpage. Learn more here.
