Integrated Management System for Facilities Management

The purpose of this article is to share with facilities practitioners who are tackling the integration of multiple management standards, in the field of facilities management, such as Environment Management and Health and Safety Management.

I have come across many facilities practitioners who often experienced inefficiencies during the development and implementation of the multiple management standards due to conflicting approaches and duplication of efforts. Since working on ISO 41001 consulting services since 2019, I have observed those mentioned frustrations and challenges faced by facilities practitioners who were involved in establishing and implementing the various Standards for facilities management. My team and I have worked on providing a well-integrated management system that will concurrently provide facilities practitioners with a guide to prevent overlap and repetition between the multiple Standards, to provide a productive and efficient system to integrate the multiple Standards into one Integrated Management System.

The purpose is to align all the different subject areas and components to the common FM objectives. Any area or component of an FM function that influences the outcome or result for the FM Policy and Objectives should be in the Integrated Management System. That means all activities for managing facilities management, environmental management, occupational health, and safety management. Processes and their documentation must be combined into an integrated, holistic system, into a single audit process that concurrently verifies the conformance to the multiple Standards.

IMS is an effective system used to simply FM works, avoid conflict, and avoid duplication of tasks. It can lead to significant cost savings and efficient utilisation of resources.

?By implementing an IMS, the entire FM team is brought together to achieve unified FM objectives. It provides a clear and consistent image of your FM performance.
