Many vendors make the claim that they have an application lifecycle management tool even when their tools support one or two phases of an application lifecycle. In fact some of the tools that are prominent in the ALM market today such as Jira support just one lifecycle phase like bug tracking. However, vendors of these tools work on building partnerships with other vendors that have other tools to support other lifecycle phases. Suddenly, you find yourself forced to purchase multiple tools that were developed by different vendors at different times. Those tools often have different architectures, different database structure and different user interface. This is like making a fruit smoothie that has not been blended very well. The result is always technical and administrative nightmare. Dealing with different architectures, different database structures and different user interfaces represent a real technical challenge, especially when your teams have to deal with different support teams. Also, having to deal with multiple vendors and maintaining multiple licenses for different tools is a major challenge.
