Insurance Post’s recap of December

Hello from Insurance Post,
December saw deals get done so insurers could begin the new year with new colleagues, protestors paint the City’s Walkie-Talkie building red plus a familiar face getting a top gong from King Charles III.
A busy end to a non-stop year.
Fresh starts
RSA managed to say goodbye to personal lines before Big Ben bonged to mark the start of the new year. As a result of the deal, Admiral will welcome RSA’s personal lines book and colleagues to their business in 2024. Insurance Post promises to catch-up with both insurer’s leaders to keep you updated on their fresh plans for the new year.
Painting the town red
While insurers painted the City red with their Christmas celebrations, protestors from Money Rebellion, the sister group of Extinction Rebellion, literally painted the offices of UK-based insurance companies in London, Reading, Leeds, Leicester, and Colchester red.
Fire extinguishers were used to spray blood red paint over buildings including the Walkie Talkie building in London. Will 2024 see protestors continue to target insurance conferences, provider’s offices, and Lloyd's? Post will keep a close eye on the activists.
Nothing like a Dame
December saw Amanda Blanc, group chief executive officer of Aviva, talk to the Treasury select committee about sexism in financial services and get a Damehood from King Charles III in his New Years Honours List.
She was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire for “services to business, to gender equality and to net-zero”. The gong ended an amazing year for Blanc, won the Achievement Award at the 2023 British Insurance Awards and took part in Desert Island Discs in March.
