A casual chat with a colleague at lunch set me thinking!!
The topic was 'Subordination' or the anonym 'Insubordination'
We discussed about what is taught in schools & then colleges when you move on to higher avenues of learnings & then the conversation dropped.
Late night, i was still pondering over the brief discussion that we had & went through the entire journey I have passed till today and it gave an awakening. We, as humans, are trained for 'Subordination' in all walks of life
- Personal - not allowed to question beliefs & thoughts of elders, family members, society etc
- Professional - not going against the tide, in large & small corporates and entities (most of the times), being part of the 'YES' bandwagon…
- Friends - not questioning their ways & means or style, of living, earning, spending etc. Fun moments apart.
Basically, the society or community at large accepts you as a part of it only when you live by their rules. Though there are instances & plenty of them, who have ventured out the unconventional path, found difficulties, attained success & have been part of the mainstream. Those who fail to are bogged down by the constant guilt of trying something different.
While we all do a lot of bold talk promoting the ideology of 'Challenging Status Quo' do we ourselves actually dare do the same at all times or most of the times? The answer is a stark NO!! Not because of these being an odd question but for the fear of receiving an answer which might not go down well. The sugar-coated word for this is 'calculated risks', which goes on to say that we take risk only when we are sure of the outcomes - basically in favor of achievement.
Controlled Insubordination!! Is this factually possible?

6 年Was I the colleague with whom you had the discussion Manoj Nair? :) Not only is controlled insubordination possible but also sometimes necessary for personal and professional growth and for something new to happen. The world doesnt get changed by nice and diplomatic men and women or those who seek to be in the good books of everyone.
