"Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you should set up a life you don't need to escape from." —Seth Godin

Our mission to professionalise tutoring is a vast undertaking. It requires a vanguard of motivated professional tutors to lead the way. It requires well-developed training and qualifications to create pathways to continued success. And it requires educating parents and students as to what to look for in a professional tutor. As you probably know, we've been pursuing this goal relentlessly for the past five years.

In that time, we've developed a vibrant community committed to providing the guidance, support and encouragement that every tutor needs. Our three house rules: Be Curious, Be Generous, Be Reflective allow members to feel safe to pose questions, share knowledge, ask for help - in short, to be vulnerable. Just this week, four new members independently told me what a wonderful experience they'd had immediately after joining up. As one member put it 'I don't feel lonely anymore'.

We've also developed professional development opportunities in adundance that are truly transformational for tutors. From my book, 'Love Tutoring, Be the tutor your student needs' published by Crown House, to our live course 'AI for Tutors' with the amazing Dr Neelam Parmar. From our weekly calendar of online events, to the forthcoming World Tutors' Day celebrations. From the well established Level 3 for tutors to the groundbreaking Level 7 (more on this next week)... there's just so much to get involved with right now.

And we've developed a quality mark that makes it easy for parents to trust professional tutors. Thanks to our pioneering digital credentials, the certification programme we launched at Bett in January 2024, and our free QualifiedTutor.Directory, verified professional tutors are now readily accessible to parents. Not only do we run this service at no additional cost to our members, but we also actively invest in promoting it to parents. Check out the advert below, the third in a series we've been running since September which have resulted in a significant increase in visitors to our directory.

You might be able to tell that this week, I've been binge-watching Dragon's Den. Although we won't be taking Qualified Tutor to the den any time soon, I do think that the dragons would appreciate our laser-focussed commitment to our vital mission of 'raising standards in tutoring, together'.

It's an undertaking of Sisyphean proportions, and as you may know I'm often daunted and exhausted by the journey, but right now, with Spring on the way, I can't help but feel proud of the difference we're making and excited to see what happens next.

If you want to hear more, please do use the orange button at the top of this newsletter to book in a chat with me. Talking to tutors is where it all starts.

Warmest wishes,

Julia

Watch this week's QT Conversation

QT Conversations is our weekly online event series, organised by Qualified Tutor, where we, as tutoring professionals, come together to support and connect with each other. Held every Thursday at 11 am, these live-streamed sessions on LinkedIn cover a wide range of topics that matter to us as tutors, giving us the opportunity to learn research-based practices, business strategies, and inspirational insights. Our sessions are all about fostering a collaborative and supportive community, where we can refine our approach and stay informed about the latest trends in tutoring.

This week’s QT Conversation was all about the seasonal nature of tutoring. We spoke about how different tutoring has its own seasons, how we navigate our personal seasons in terms of health, how we can plan for peaks and troughs using multiple income streams, and of course, how there are many ‘right’ ways to succeed as a tutor.

Join the conversation every Thursday to gain insights from fellow tutors and industry experts. Let’s keep connected—follow Qualified Tutor on LinkedIn to stay updated and join us for future discussions.
