Instead of predicting the future, focus on what doesn't change
At every legal tech conference, a moderator always asks, "What's the future of the legal industry?"
A guy selling AI contract review will say that AI is the future.
A girl selling practice management software will say that practice management is the future.
When they ask me, I always say, "Anyone who claims to know the future is lying."
The range of possible futures is infinite. Not only do you have to speculate correctly, but also guess how they will play out and then go all-in on that future. Nobody can know that. It's impossible.
Does it actually matter what someone says the future will be? Will it change what you'd do today? If someone said, "Sending text messages using your thoughts is the future", would you start building that thing? Likely no.
Instead of guessing, pay attention to what's not going to change. Just like knowing the sun will rise from the east and ice cubes will be cold, some things don't not change.
People always love products that are simple.?10 years from now people aren't going to say "I wish Lawtrades was harder to use". Focus on the craft of making great products.?
People always value speed.?In the future, will anyone say, "I wish it took longer to get an answer from someone at Lawtrades?" Invest heavily in infrastructure and customer service.?
Shipping lots of experiments increases your chances of success. You can't know which attempt will be a hit, so try absolutely everything, all the time.
Instead of chasing fads or trends, focus your energy on the stuff that won't change in your business and double down on that.
