Are instant results from LinkedIn possible?
Instant results, or pretty immediate results, are what most of us want.
This is much less likely to happen with organic, relationship-building marketing.?
If you want quick results, then use paid ads.
Recent research by @SocialMediaExaminer found that marketers get better results as the months and years go by.?
Half of marketers who have been using social media for two or more years report that it helped them improve sales.
78% of marketers using social media for a year or more report that it generates exposure for their business.
Note that this is not instant results.
Although I am not saying gaining leads and new clients is not possible in the short term I want to give you a realistic expectation. After all, there are plenty of people promising you the earth and then not delivering. What I am saying is that it takes time to build the know, like and trust factor.
LinkedIn can absolutely build your sales pipeline. It does that by increasing your visibility so that more people are on your radar, and you theirs.
It builds credibility. Do not underestimate this. Even when a prospect is doing their research on you and your business they will, no doubt, look at LinkedIn. If they can see the quality of your content, the comments you have, the recommendations etc. it all of this builds a positive picture in their mind eve if they are not a connection or do not follow you.
The Power of Consistency on LinkedIn
We have to be in it for the long term. Be consistent.??
If you are not committed, don't start. Wait until you are ready.
A shout-out to my amazing client, Jason, co-founder of a fantastic UX agency that specialises in user engagement, retention, and satisfaction, Hancock & Rowe .? He knows that consistency pays off. His company’s LinkedIn results are steadily improving. He has a great proposition, optimised profile and company page, quality content that his audince want to read - and consistency.
Jason's results - In less than 4 months....
Zero to 205 newsletter subscribers
63% increase in search appearances on LinkedIn
62% increase in Company Page followers
7% increase in personal profile views
15% increase in personal followers (a testament to his content)
Rated in the top 1% in his industry (SSI Score)
Rated in the top 2% in his LinkedIn network
When clients work with me, we start to measure their results using around 15 different metrics.? I do this for my own business too.??
The number one reason those metrics stop increasing is a drop-off or halt in activity.? And I have had times when I have had to decrease or stop my activity over the last 10 years on LinkedIn.? Life happens - a mother dying, hospital stays etc.. No point in beating ourselves up about it!
How do you achieve consistency??
This is how Jason Hancock does it.
A few posts will not make much of an impact.? Many people start down the posting path and then give up because it ‘hasn’t worked’.?
I cannot tell you how many times I have heard this.? When I looked at their activity on LinkedIn, it was minimal. And the strategy and plan were nonexistent.??
Many people expect that once you post, all of your connections see it, but unfortunately, that is simply not true.? It is much more complex than that. You need to know how the platform works to make it work for you.
Content does not work in isolation
The other fact to remember is that posts do not work in isolation.? LinkedIn is really linked up!
??The quality of your 1st connection network matters.
??The steady flow of new connections and followers matters.
??Commenting on other people's posts matter.
??Following up with people who have engaged on your posts matters.
领英推荐
??Following up with people who have shown an interest in you, eg viewed your profile matters.
??Your market and niche matter.
??Your LinkedIn profile matters.
Get the right formula in place, and the magic will start to happen.
Resourcing your LinkedIn activity
Reading the list above, you might think, wow how am I going to plan and manage all that!
The trick is to be realistic about your goals and the timescale to achieve them.
I always talk to my new clients about the resources of time and money that they have at their disposal and whether that is sustainable over time.
Each of my clients ends up with a bespoke plan and ways of achieving that. It's different for each client based on what resources we have.
I like to write my own posts and be involved on Linkedin.
I think it is very tricky to outsource it all to someone outside of your business.?
This is because I believe in building community and personal relationships. Not automation or hundreds of messages.?
That said, there are always ways of delegating tasks. Your personal plan will depend on your business, not a copy of someone elses.
Involving the whole company in your marketing and lead generation
Getting others in your business behind the plan and having the enthusiasm and passion to implement it over time is a good idea. This will speed up your results.
Tailoring the? LinkedIn activity to someone's skills, experience, and abilities is advisable. For example, if a client of mine is not happy to do videos, they are not on the plan. Or, if they are on the plan, they get done by someone else.? Someone else may be good at writing articles -? use them!
If posting three times a week is considered sustainable over the long term, then committing to that rather than posting daily is better. Be realistic rather than over-enthusiastic in the beginning. You can always increase your activity if you have the capacity.
Most people in your business can contribute in some way to creating success on LinkedIn. Make them accountable!
It is a team effort to ensure the success of the business.
Practice makes perfect.? The more you try to generate leads via social media, the better you get.
Let me know in the comments how well LinkedIn works for you and what your views are on consistency and instant results.

1 个月"Half of marketers who have been using social media for two or more years report that it helped them improve sales." I doubt that very much. It's like when Li says that 37% more people respond to InMails than sending DMs. Or some such stat. It's BS too. Although I have made quick sales from direct outreach, it's generally much more of a slow build—at least a year for most people. Great article, Tracey. I loved your point about content not working in isolation. The client acquisition machine has many moving parts.
