Installing a MegaCocoon in Kenya
The National Irrigation Board (NIB) of Kenya recently had a a bumper harvest of maize at their Galana Irrigation scheme. The corn will now be stored hermetically in an airtight, 525 Metric Ton MegaCocoon.
The NIB is a government agency that was established in 1966 and currently manages 7 national irrigation schemes in Kenya, according to its website.
The NIB is also spearheading the implementation of Galana/Kulalu Food Security Project in Tana River and Kilifi Counties (eastern Kenya), where the hermetic MegaCocoon will be located.
GrainPro's Priscilla Mosigisi and Justus Alinaitwe traveled to the site this week to help prepare the ground for the MegaCocoon. Creating a level, flat surface for the MegaCocoon is critical to ensure the maize bags are stacked evenly and safely.
The MegaCocoon will be erected next week after Priscilla and Justus return from Somalia, where they are currently installing smaller Cocoons for the UN World Food Program.
Hermetic Cocoons preserve grain quality for up to a year without using toxic fumigants or pesticides. The Cocoons have a lifespan of 10 years, are mobile, can be erected outdoors, and meet organic standards.

8 年Interesting but the photos don't illustrate very well the innovative technology that GrainPro promotes. You should show us a cocoon! You should show us some 3ply sacks!
