The amount of?deep work?you do on a day-to-day basis is what sets you apart from the rest.?

Deep work makes you a purple cow.?

Whereas, the?shallow work?that you do is replaceable.?

What can’t be replaced is the work you do with your?creative soul on fire?and your?cognitive abilities on challenge.

Now what exactly is ‘deep work’ and ‘shallow work’ and why out-of-nowhere I’m talking about them??

Deep work refers to highly concentrated and uninterrupted periods of time where an individual focuses on cognitively demanding tasks that require significant cognitive effort and concentration.

It involves working on tasks that require deep thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills, often leading to the creation of something new or meaningful.?

Shallow work, on the other hand, refers to tasks that are less demanding, such as answering emails, attending meetings, and other administrative tasks. These tasks are often routine and do not require significant cognitive effort or creativity.

While both the shallow work and the deep work are important components of any job today, deep work creates the most significant results and moves the needle.

With the surge of AI and fear among people of getting their jobs replaced, it’s more important than ever to talk about deep work.?

If your work day involves the least amount of deep work, you need to make a change.?

If your work day requires significant hours of deep work on a daily basis, you’re good to go.?

Pay attention to the tasks you can do without challenging your cognitive abilities in an environment full of distractions. Those tasks are the shallow tasks anyone can do, and so can AI.?

What increases your market value and makes you an expert is the deep work you do and It’s hard to be replaced.?

One of my favourite book on the topic is?‘Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World’?by Cal Newport.?

This book is good enough to change the way you look at work forever.?

Some people take social media for business very lightly and a nice-to-have. It’s only because they don’t have skin in the game. Or they don’t know what they’re talking about. (??)?

Social media has entirely disrupted the traditional marketing.?

It holds the biggest attention arbitrage and if done right for any business, it can change the course of it.?

I’m not saying that social media is easy. I’m saying it’s powerful.?

So, let’s talk today about?social graph vs. Interest graph?of social media platforms.?

If you’re from older days, you must remember how Instagram’s algorithm used to work.?

The feed was pretty much the photos and videos posted by your friends and family (the people you follow) shown to you in terms of recently posted.?

It was purely a social graph and algorithm was made accordingly.?

People were shown the content of other people from their social network, the people they have connections with, and the people they follow.?

Until the TikTok came and said ‘To hell with your social network’.?

There’s more to the world than the people you know. Lol?

They created algorithm based on ‘Interest graph’ which means you’ll be shown the type of content which you’re most interested in no matter who you follow and who you don’t.?

But how do they know what you’re interested in??

This is the headache of their machine learning recommendation algorithms. The moment we you start using the platform, they start analysing your behaviour and interest and create a ‘completely personalised’ FOR YOU page for you.?

The more you use the platform, the better they know you. They keep showing you your interest-based content and you keep scrolling on TikTok for hours. It gets addictive at times and now you know why. They show you what your sub-conscious like.?

Soon after TikTok boomed it’s user-base with interest-graph algorithm, other platforms like Instagram and YouTube tried to incorporate interest-graph in their algorithms as much as possible via Reels and Shorts.?

If you notice, Reels and Shorts pretty much work on the same rule. You get to explore videos from businesses and creators you don’t even follow just because you were interested in something similar before.?

So, what’s the take away for businesses or creators or anyone who’s serious about social media??

• With interest-graph, everything has become highly ‘Consumer-centric’.?
• If you don’t pay attention to conscious and sub-conscious needs of your consumer, you won’t stand out.?
• To win in the attention scarce world, your creative production should begin from the consumer-up and not from the brand-down.?
• Just knowing the demographic of your consumers is not enough at all.?
• Aim to know your consumers more than they know themselves and operate form there.?
• With tools available to everyone, competition is touching the roof and to stand out, businesses need to squeeze every drop of their creative juice.?

Building better Twitter through verification

(This news feels as old time ??)you must have heard that Twitter advertisers can’t run ads without subscribing to the blue-tick subscription or verified organisations (something they’ve come up with but let’s discuss this later).?

I think $8 per month is not going to be a problem for serious advertisers of the platform. If you run ads for fun, you may as well don’t.?

Most people are not happy with this decision of Musk but I don’t see why ???

Now, you may think I’m biased but let’s get logical here. $8 per month is not a big deal for advertisers or even those who want to maintain their status quo. If I had a blue-tick on Twitter, I’d definitely pay $8 to keep it.?
