Instagram Topics- What you need to know

Good news for all of you Instagram reel creators out there. Another new, helpful feature is being rolled out slowly but surely, allowing some users to now add topics to reels. What does this mean? It means reels can now be categorized making it easier to reach the right audience of people who are actually interested in those topics!

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?

This is huge! Instagram is taking on the task of helping you reach the right people. It’s a new way for the platform to help you provide your content directly to an audience who wants it, who is more engaged, and who is interested in what it is you have to offer. Bottom line? It should actually increase your views and engagement with your videos.?

WHY ARE THEY DOING THIS?

Because they are all about the reels! They want you to watch reels and engage with them. Reels make up most of the content users are watching, and in turn, they want to keep the most engaged users on their app.?

You may have noticed recently the numerous recommendations Instagram is pushing toward you. Making suggestions of things you may be interested in, or accounts you may want to follow whether you like it or not. It’s no secret that Instagram is starting to mimic TikTok a bit, bombarding feeds with videos from people you don’t know. The hope now is that by providing the “topic” option, it’s going to better set up the algorithm to help get the right content to the right people. Better for your business, better for your own feed, and better for Instagram. Everyone wins!

But there is a bit of disagreement out there on whether or not users actually want this, and whether or not they like that Instagram is looking a bit more like TikTok these days. While that battle continues, just make sure you continue to use reels to your advantage and take a look into the topic option because you’ll want to stay relevant while reels are still ruling the platform.

SO…ARE YOU DOING REELS YET?

So yes, we know that reels have been taking over Instagram for a while now. As I’ve mentioned before, if you aren’t doing Instagram videos yet, it’s reely important to start! This is where you are going to get noticed by your customers, this is where you are going to get your conversions, and this is where you are going to get your likes, increase your views, and generate interest. And the fact that you can now add topics to them? Even better! Not only are they going to pique the interest of audiences out there, but they will also pique the interest of the right audience!
