Businesses primarily use Instagram to promote their products and services often with the primary objective of driving traffic to their websites. However, the reality is that Instagram feed posts are not an effective way to drive traffic, and here’s why:

?Aside from links not being clickable on in-feed posts, the average user is on Instagram for a different reason –?to scroll. Instagram is a highly visual platform and is perfect for discovering new content and engaging with the content and communities they are a part of – NOT to click out of the platform.
What does this mean for your business? You need to be strategic in your approach. Each feature on Instagram serves a different function on platform and for your content strategy. By creating high-quality content that resonates with your followers and gives them a reason to follow will increase your visibility and community.

?Think of a time (probably today) you saw a compelling post on Instagram, you read through the long caption and learned nothing other than you need to find the link to the article to read what you were teased.
?So, now you’ve read the long caption, you have to click the poster’s handle, go to their profile and click the link in bio, but chances are it’s something like a Link Tree, so you have to scroll to find the post you want to read, then you’re finally in your browser and can read – but sometimes, you have to log in or have a membership to read. Who actually goes through this process? Not many.
?Think of the feed as your art gallery, your water cooler – the place the community you desire to have so much hangs out – it’s casual, it’s comforting, educational or humorous. Use Instagram stories and ads (clickable banners on posts) to drive traffic.
Stop the scroll without disrupting the Instagram user experience.
