Insta Worthy Resumes

I had the most interesting interview with a candidate today. We are currently looking for young and creative minds for a position in our Digital Marketing department.
This young woman submitted a resume that was... for lack of a better word, wild.
I do realise those days are gone where all we used was MS Word to make a simple resume and just hope to land a job.
Now, we see an influx of online applications like #Canva, #Crello, #Easil, etc. that offer 'aesthetic', 'creative' & 'Instagram worthy' templates for resumes.
This resume that we received was quite colourful; with an artsy header, to all types of shapes spread out across the document, with various pastel and trending colours used in the fonts. Oh, and don't get me started on the number of fonts used to look trendy, aesthetic. Gone are the days when Times Roman was the font we used to look professional.
When I asked her why her resume spoke more than she did, the reply was as I expected. She hopped on a bandwagon that she saw on the Internet.
There's nothing wrong with coming off as 'Insta Worthy', you've got to be subtle. Standing out doesn't mean that you can mesh all of these trends into one document and submit it to an employer, he or she will not even consider you for the interview.
Word to the wise, use one trend at a time and don't overuse it.
