1. Please summarise who you are, your role and where you’re based
I’m Maki Hasegawa in charge of customer care manager for RoA (Rest of Asia) in HBK based in Tokyo, Japan.
2. Can you share a bit about your journey leading up to your current role?
When I joined the company, I started to support the Japan team. After 2 years later, merger was announced, and my team got bigger to 1.5 times. I enjoyed the differences in culture and enjoyed adapting them to become the stronger team. After another 3 years, we aligned to the global team and my team has been expanded to the rest of Asia including the teams in Korea, Singapore, India and Taiwan. We’ve learned from each other and are sharing the best practices.
3. What do you enjoy most about your role?
I’ve been always enjoying being a first point of contact for customers both externally and internally.
4. What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
You can’t control other people’s actions, but you can control your reaction to them.
5. What skills do you think will be essential for the next generation of women leaders?
Confidence – being unafraid of taking risks, fail forward by learning from mistakes.
6. Who is your role model and why?
Natacha Tarantola – she is my manager who is always there for me.
7. In what ways have you pushed against stereotypes in your career?
Accept changes and use them as opportunities.
