The Inspiring Response to Our #MentalHealthPledge
Two weeks ago Thrive partnered with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) on a full-page ad in The New York Times bringing together over 80 companies — from Fortune 50 businesses to high-growth startups — to pledge to continue prioritizing their employees’ mental health and well-being through the challenging times that lie ahead. Since the ad appeared, hundreds more people and companies have joined and the numbers continue to grow every day.? And you can join, too, by going here to sign up and take the #MentalHealthPledge.
What the response makes clear is how urgent it is that we don’t lose the gains we’ve made on employee mental health and well-being over the last two years.?
According to a report by Fidelity and Business Group on Health, in 2021 alone an astounding 92% of companies expanded their employee mental health and well-being programs.?
And that’s not just because prioritizing mental health is good for employees, but because employee mental health and well-being are directly tied to business outcomes. To cite just one example, research commissioned by Cigna found that when an employee has a loved one at home dealing with a mental health challenge, productivity can be impacted by as much as 20%. At the same time, a survey released in May by The Conference Board found that 77% of HR executives said they’ve seen an increase in employees reporting they’re burned out – up from 42% in September, 2020.
We’ve come too far on employee mental health and well-being to turn back now. It’s in challenging times that we most need to double down on our resilience.??
The good news is that, as you can see below, leaders at all levels realize employee mental health and well-being are essential — and not something to be cut when times get tough. Here are just a few of the responses.

2 年I used to deal with anxiety attacks even before I started doing business/building my career. And in pursuit of my goals, I was caught up and neglected my mental health. It was not beneficial to me, as I continuously struggled and had breakdowns often. And eventually, it has affected everything that I do. By then, I decided to start taking care of my mental health.? "We’ve come too far on employee mental health and well-being to turn back now. It’s in challenging times that we most need to double down on our resilience." Indeed, we need to continue and step up our game in pursuing a healthy mindset, for it will result in a healthy environment and effectiveness in whatever we do. I'm delighted to know that many companies right now are taking action. Thank you so much for sharing this, Arianna Huffington
