Inspiring Moments
Dontá Wilson
Chief Consumer and Small Business Banking Officer and Member of the Truist Operating Council
During this time of year, I like to reflect on the inspiring moments I’ve had over the past 12 months that remind me of my true purpose and why I believe banking is a noble calling and service to others.
I’m fortunate to look back and see those opportunities have been plentiful in 2022. From packing backpacks with my Truist teammates for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America , to supporting many non-profit organizations committed to making our communities better, these experiences continuously inspire me to do more. I loved joining my alma mater University of North Carolina at Charlotte as we welcomed new students this fall and celebrated homecoming with my fellow alumni. I was thrilled that we were able to announce our new Truist One product suite designed to help clients build a stronger financial future. And the opportunity to celebrate an incredible leader and a mentor to me, Ambassador Andrew Young, for his 90th birthday was another memorable highlight from this year.
But my No.1 most inspiring moment from 2022 was serving alongside Truist teammates as we distributed humanitarian aid to those in the wake of Hurricane Ian in Ft. Myers and Estero, Florida. After the darkness of the storm moved out, we focused on being the light for those in need as we unloaded water, supplies, and other essentials to community members. The sheer energy, effort, and planning from so many to make this extraordinary effort happen was astonishing, and to see its impact was incredible. In an environment suddenly lacking necessities and comforts, the care and resiliency of our teammates is something I won’t forget.
But we didn’t just stop there, last month, we had an incredible team of servant leaders in Florida hand out Thanksgiving meals to our teammates in the most impacted areas. What seemed like a great opportunity quickly sprouted into an inspiring moment for over 200 families in the community. We supplied meals to those who couldn’t cook for Thanksgiving because they’d lost everything and to others grateful to share their meals with neighbors in need.
Hearing the stories of teammates and clients who felt the power of care is something that’s propelling me into the new year with great hope to focus more on being the light and creating these types of moments. As we look ahead to 2023, the opportunity to self-reflect allows us to ask, “What can I do?” and “How can I serve others?” to create those most inspiring moments, or what we call acts of care.

At Truist, we’re doubling down on our commitment to care. We will continue to grow in our purpose to inspire and build better lives and communities. We will remain strong advocates for serving low- to moderate-income communities, promoting financial education and literacy, building career pathways, and strengthening small businesses. We will continue to be champions of diversity, equity, and inclusion; and always be here to support teammates and community members in times of need.
Let us not forget that inspiring moments don’t just happen. You must show up and show care to make them happen.?
I’d love to hear about the moments that inspired you the most this year. Name one person or moment that inspired you in 2022.

Engaging Clients to Build Better Lives and Communities
1 年My team leader Genia Vanhooser has gone over and above to welcome many new teammates to our team both during and after the merger, build up morale, develop talent, and coordinate our Lighthouse Project and November food drive in addition to doing what it takes behind the scenes to keep this team running. She's enabled me to grow as a teammate and become more active in volunteerism, so for that I'm grateful and inspired by what she's done for me and our team.
