"I spent 35 years building a fulfilling career as a senior leader in higher education. Yet, when it came time for the expected retirement, I knew I wasn't done. A deep-seated entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for student well-being called me in a new direction. My journey hasn't been easy, but it has been incredibly rewarding", said Dr. Mariam when asked why she decided to start her journey as an entrepreneur.

Leveraging Experience, Facing Challenges:

My established reputation helped secure an initial contract, but transitioning to managing salaries, licensing, and other business complexities proved challenging.

COVID Challenges, Silver Linings

I retired during the pandemic and faced 7 months of lockdown in Bombay – being in isolation and under strict restriction, I couldn't ignore the urge to do something. I began working with groups helping Indian students stranded in the UK, offering them psychological support. It was hard, but I helped with repatriation efforts.

Building Back in Dubai

Connections in Dubai helped me set up a visionary, cost-effective company. I could manage everything remotely, which was good, since everything was still slow due to COVID. I worked tirelessly with foreign clients, and with the UAE's resilience, things picked up.

Passion Over Retirement

In the beginning, I invested my own savings, driven solely by passion. The idea of retirement seems impossible when surrounded by such incredible potential. Receiving a lifetime achievement award was deeply humbling, but it only fueled my drive to do more. My research continues – it's a lifelong pursuit. Now, I've embraced a new entrepreneurial journey, determined to create lasting impact.

The Birth of the Student Happiness Center

I'm surrounded by incredible young people, their potential shining bright. But sometimes, challenges dim their light. I've become their "SHO" – Student Happiness Operator – helping them navigate those tough moments. Inspired by their resilience, I pioneered student happiness centers, creating a safe haven within our institution. I even bring international students to Dubai, fostering a vibrant community where everyone celebrates each other. These students, they've gone from calling me "Ma'am" to "Mom". It's the most rewarding title, because it shows we're building more than just minds; we're nurturing hearts.
