Inspiring Future Generations at St Mary’s University College, Belfast

Boasting some of the best campus facilities in the UK and Ireland, Queen’s University has a ￡700m investment in a 20-year capital development programme. This includes a new Staff and Administrative Building for St Mary’s University College, which has used products from Knauf Ceiling Solutions’ harmonised portfolio to modernise, repurpose and utilise its interior spaces.??

A double height room flanked by floor to ceiling glass windows created an airy open plan space but was prone to high volume noise. In contrast, the compact first floor area needed to feel lighter and more spacious. Linking the two spaces presented design challenges particularly for the ceiling landscape and acoustic performance, which was a project imperative.?

Uniting Spaces and Enhancing Acoustics?

HERADESIGN? baffles and rafts offered the perfect ceiling solution, combining great aesthetic qualities and superior acoustic performance.?

Light grey baffles united the double height area and first floor. While elsewhere a mix of rafts in light grey and traffic purple provided an elegant, calm interior design palette, with pops of modern colour contrast providing space definition in the open plan layout.??
