An Inspiring Dreamer and Doer
Reading the late Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong's story was inspiring as it captured the essence of his about 80-year life journey.
It only took me two days to finish it as I couldn't take my hands off this book and was eager to find out what was next as I followed the story closely.?
Here are several key lessons I've learned from his life experience:
Be determined, and you'll see the light at the end of the tunnel
He encountered six accidents on site upon land development, but he remains persistent in pursuing his dreams. One night, he dreamt of God reassuring him to continue and that a bright future lies ahead for him.? In return, he built Chin Swee temple to express his gratitude towards God.?
Be a dreamer and a doer at any age
He has a burning desire even though he is already a successful businessman. However, he was still determined to build another empire at about age 50 and even launched the first cruise in Southeast Asia after about three decades. The word "retirement" didn't appear in his mind until he felt it was time to pass the baton to his second son Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, whom he complimented as an intelligent and long-sighted businessman.?

Be a problem solver
Due to unforeseen circumstances, a project was delayed for about a year, which the client was not happy about, and even sent 29 registered letters to him. He could have surrendered but negotiated for another six months to complete the project. It was terrific that he achieved 60% completion in less than four months.
Be strategic yet ethical (kind)
There was a land that involved family disputes, yet he managed to acquire it; he also helped resolve the family disputes that have been around for many years. He was glad when he saw the family was reunited eventually. It was undoubtedly one stone that killed two birds.?
There's more that I've learned from reading his story, and I hope he will inspire you too.
