#inspireinclusion
When more women are empowered to lead, everyone benefits. Experience proves that women leaders increase productivity, enhance collaboration, inspire organisational dedication, and improve fairness. Having women in leadership roles allows organisations to forge a deeper connection with their customers, inspire other women employees and boost employee engagement.

As CEO of a growing and impactful not-for-profit based in Brisbane, building a strong, transformational leadership team is imperative to me and to our continued success. Women should, and do, play a key role in this and I get amazing support and incredible input from the 3 talented women on our 4 strong leadership team.

At Empower Autism we’re strong advocates of the benefits of inclusion, equality and diversity. Autistic people actively contribute to everything we do and we’re very proud of the fact that we have a neurodiverse workforce - 58% of our Board, 50% of our volunteers and 43% of our staff identify as autistic! We’re equally proud that a significant percentage of this team are women.

To impact social change, we need the passion, the resourcefulness and the creativity that women bring. From my experience, they tend to see the world through a lens of opportunity and take an authentic and practical approach to strategic thinking.

The women of Empower Autism are team-orientated, inclusive and collaborative. They bring different skills, qualities and perspectives to leadership. At Empower Autism, we strive to recognise diversity as a strength and an opportunity. The benefits of diversity and gender parity in leadership and decision-making should not be underestimated. Women generally are ethical and champion diversity and issues of equality, thus improving outcomes and bringing about results.
On International Women’s Day, I’d like to celebrate and acknowledge the significant contribution that the women on the Empower Autism team, past, present and future, play in the success of this organisation and the social change we’re striving to make with the autistic community.

Happy #IWD2024, team Empower Autism. It’s amazing that 43% of your team identify as Autistic. Can you disclose what percentage of your leadership team identify as Autistic? To me it’s critical to have that representation of #actuallyautistics. Passion and lived experience are amazing. But demonstrating that autistic people are capable of leadership roles is so much more powerful. Why? Incredibly high lifelong unemployment rates despite often having a high level of skill make this so important. It’s great to demonstrate autistic potential in this way.
