This was one of the stand out moments for me from the #Paris #Olympics. The Netherlands' Sharon van Rouwendaal dedicated her gold medal in the women's 10km marathon swim to her pet dog 'Rio' who died in May this year.
Van Rouwendaal named her dog after the Olympic Gold she won in Rio in 2016. In Tokyo in 2021, the swimmer narrowly missed the gold medal by 0.9 seconds. At Paris the Olympian said, "Let's try it and I'll swim for him with my whole heart. I did it, I won for him" pointing to the tattoo in Rio's memory.
It reminded me of Sir Mo Farah 's statement at Rio after winning the 10,000m he said, "Gold was for my daughter, now to get one for my son" referring to the 5,000m that he went on to win too. Both athletes proved to be unbeatable.
Love is a super power. A reminder for us all, success comes when you do what you do, for others.
