Inspired to be Inspiring! Reintroducing our #ClimateChangeChampions - Sarah Ogbewey
Sarah is the founder of A Woman's Heart Foundation a non for profit organisation organising educational programmes from women in Nigeria.?She is the co-convener of @wastetoartweek - an initiative that uses art as a driver to support sustainable waste management practises in Nigeria.
Waste-To-Art Week (WAW) has been supported by the likes of the British Council, Nigeria Conservation Foundation, Lagos Ministry of Environment, Society of Nigerian Artists and other notable enterprises. Watch this explainer video to find out more.
The aim of Waste to Art Week is to raise awareness of the facts around waste in Nigeria.?The World Bank projects that by 2025, Nigeria will produce 101,307 tonnes of waste per day, 1/4th of all the waste Africa is projected to produce in one day by 2050.
Waste to Art week is also about engaging with partners, communities and citizens of Nigeria to bring about collaborations and partnerships to develop systems and societal practices that will positively affect waste management practices.
Examples of the art produced include this ethnic drum made from non-hazardous E-Waste parts by artist Dr. Oliver Enwonwu. E-Waste is known to be highly hazardous. Its indiscriminate disposal contributes to the seeping of poisonous chemicals into water bodies and agricultural produce. This Art piece is called – Sound the Alarm!.
