Inspired by her sister, Yu Xuan begins volunteering and forging friendships for a greater good

Yu Xuan found her role model in her sister, who is four years older. She is an active volunteer and works with youths-at-risk and migrant workers. Yu Xuan recalled a story of a group of migrant workers cooking food for all the volunteers so as to show their appreciation for the help rendered by volunteers. That got her wanting to volunteer to get to know more people in the community.?

When she first started, she was worried as she did not know what to expect and how the people would be. However, she decided to stay open minded. “It is important to come with an open mind, being more open to different adventures and learning opportunities. With every different opportunity comes a learning opportunity.”, she said.

With this attitude, Yu Xuan joined the BeyondSG Cluster in March 2022 and is also an Aspirant with the current Youth Corps Leadership Programme (YCLP) till December 2022.?

Yu Xuan came to join BeyondSG after seeing the recruitment ad from the telegram group. At the cluster, she found herself getting to know the different social issues prevalent in the ASEAN region and many inspiring youth volunteers who are serving their communities in their home countries. This opened up her worldview and she met members who are as committed and passionate about this cause.?

She loves working and serving people and believes being people-centric is essential. She finds joy when everyone works together towards a common goal of supporting communities, bouncing ideas off each other. Despite their hiccups at project execution, her team remained committed to the outcome. Volunteering helps us to forge friendships, get to know people from other social circles, and know people from all walks of life.
