Inspired to go further...
What I love about life is that there are moments when you have the opportunity to do great things to support the causes that matter the most. Especially when it means doing something that you have loved doing since you were a young child.
My family had us swimming from an early age — not competitively like one of my uncles once did — but together as a family every weekend—three generations swimming together. To me it is one of those great escapes from the busy world where swimming is one of my peaceful moments in life — whether in a pool, a local creek or the great wide ocean — I always found myself swimming for fun.
This year, there is one such cause close to my heart that I have to support again and that is the annual Swimathon. A gathering of swimmers of all levels across the UK in more than 430 locations who swim to help generate much needed funds for Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie.
These causes are important to me because I have lost an aunt to cancer. I have another aunt and close friend who are both in remission, and more recently one of my oldest and dearest of friends is currently undergoing treatment. For that reason, I have signed up, with a couple of fellow leisure swimmers, to do a 5k swim [and more if we can muster the strength within the time granted] to help generate as many donations as we can.

So if this is a cause that means something to you, it would mean a great deal to us if you could spare a few pennies and a message of support to help us achieve our target and spur us on to swim as far as we can muster.
Sincere thanks in advance to those who can support us or your colleagues, friends or family who are joining us for this challenge. :-)?

2 年Rachel you are awesome and one of the kindest, compassionate people I have ever known. I am priveleged to have known you since you were a child. I’m grateful that you are in my life and have huge respect for all you do! What an absolute star you are! ??xx
Thanks to everyone who supported our team and I on the Swimathon 2022 challenge. We couldn't have had a more glorious day to complete our 5k challenge. We even had to wear sun cream it was that bright and hot. However, I can confirm that we not only completed the 5k swim within the time allowed, but we each managed to swim a further 1k [1.243 miles] with time to spare. Each team member swimming a record 2k each [40 lengths in a 50mtr outdoor pool]. I am super proud of my personal achievement of 2k, given I managed 1.6k [1 mile] in my first ever Swimathon challenge a few years back. I am also very proud of my swim buddies who went above and beyond what they thought they could achieve. So qudos to us all. Needless to say we are also super proud of our medals and can't wait to do this again sometime in the near future. It's not to late support this amazing event that generates much needed funds for Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie. No matter how small, your donations matter. ?? #swimathon22
