Inspirational Moments
.......... the way we treat one another, impacts deeply upon ourselves .........
While it's not possible to feel inspired all of the time, when uplifting experiences do come along, I believe it is valuable to cherish such important moments.
Earlier today, with my one and only brother (John), I attended a fundraising event for Rhianna Quarry, a young woman who has not quite turned 19 and was recently diagnosed with a terminal illness. The event was held at The Coolum Surf Club on Queensland's Sunshine Coast and what an inspiring event it was. Yes, of course there was great food and cold beer, but there was also an abundance of generosity. And I got to meet some incredible people.
Tony Durkin was the host and captured the moment beautifully. I was also introduced to John Ellingsen, the Supporters Club President and Fred Stokes, the Surf Life Saving Club President. Both these guys are full of passion and commitment. There were also lots of organisers, sponsors and donors. Then there were all the hard working people behind the bar and those preparing and serving food. I can't remember all of them but I would like to mention a few ...... Nirvana, Nikkita, Taylor, Melissa, Matt and Jesse.
This is a magnificent example of the community working together to help someone who finds herself in a horrible situation not of her own making. One of the things about Rhianna that really struck me is her positive outlook. After speaking with her only briefly, it's obvious she has not only courage and resilience but also an authentic energy. Even though she is so very much younger than me, I discovered that I learnt a lot from her.
And I also felt inspired by the way the local community rallied around Rhianna. Along with some tears there was also a strong sense of purpose and goodwill.
So for me, this is an experience I will cherish and remember. I sincerely wish Rhianna and her family the very best for the future.
