Lets assume, you are the CEO of a company of 1.3 billion employees.
You set a goal of a successful lock-down else employees would die. How the hell will you as a CEO make sure 1.3 Billion employees are focused on that one most critical goal?
Lets imagine the magnitude of the problems in his hands as a CEO!!
What could be a proven management techniques with EXCEPTIONAL LEADERSHIP SKILLS?.
1. Set a Goal
Whole Lock down was the goal.
No one should be left hungry during the lock-down. That's Inspiring!.
2. Set a VISION
What will happen if company succeeds. Everyone would stay safe from such a dangerous virus pandemic. He has proposed formulation of a joint strategy by the SAARC nations to fight the corona-virus, a suggestion promptly backed by all member states. That's Inspiring!.
3. Communicate
A routine every week to communicate.
Communicate - Clearly, Quickly, and Regularly.
It has to be clear to understand, quick to reach a huge mass at large and on a frequent interval.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government was quick to recommend residents avoid or postpone mass gatherings until the the virus is contained" - World Economic Forum. That's Inspiring!.
4. Motivate the employees
Involving the Employees - Modi’s clapping idea and igniting the lamps, are not fun. It makes everyone to feel that they are part of the process, apart from the regular motivational speeches.
The PM lauded people’s adherence to the ongoing 21-day nationwide lock-down, which started on March 25. He said the maturity and seriousness that they showed during the “Janta Curfew” on March 22 is unparalleled. “No one could imagine that in such a large country, people will show such discipline,” he said.
Italians, who have been under lock down for about a month, have, on their own, taken to their balconies and held candles aloft to try and beat the sense of isolation. In India’s version, in some places people came together in common areas of their housing societies to light diyas, mingle, chant ‘Go corona go’ and shout ‘Bharat mata ki jai’. That's Inspiring!
5. Motivate
- A regular encouraging public address is not sufficient, Leaders should personally be picking the phone and talking to employees recognizing the Individual would motivate highly every workers. We need to motivate the health care people, police, army and those in essential services individually during the hardest of the time. We could have seen how he talked to medical people and others encouraging them, motivating them.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi called up a nurse from the civic-run Hospital, which has been treating COVID-19 patient during the fight against pandemic. Prime Minister asked them to follow all the necessary protocols and to take adequate precautions to prevent getting infected. PM Modi took to Twitter, sharing the experiences of people and replying to them
- In a series of tweets, Modi shared people's experiences and replied to them individually.
- The PM on Mann-ki-Baat said, "There are many soldiers who are fighting coronavirus, not from their homes but from outside their homes. These are our front line soldiers, especially our brothers and sisters on duty as nurses, doctors and paramedical staff."
- "We have to take inspiration from our front-line soldiers, our nurses and doctors who are battling coronavirus," he added.
6. Focus - EXTREMELY difficult to keep 1.3 billion people focused on one single goal! Switching off lights, talking to his directs, remind people of the goal and keeping them focused. Else, all of us would have forgotten or taken it lightly. It would not be possible to any Leader to handle the "Civil Unrest" on the Pandemic Situations the way Modi does.
He assures every Indian to overcome peacefully this process of battle against the Covid19. He mentions to his Cadres, the "Nation is Bigger than the Party". That's Inspiring.
7. Execution
A strategy of execution with reference to the capability, time and measure, is important for a Leader. At times a leader must have a deterministic approach to their approach to accomplish his goal.
Assess and determine what a leader himself can do, such as this task, using these resources, and empower him to do the task.
We can imagine the complexity of executing a plan across this vast geography of India with 29+7 Business heads (CMs & Governors). Delegating the States to carryout all necessary steps to ensure the borders lock down, procurement of necessary equipments, readiness of hospitals, availability of basic necessities, financial packages, foods, migration plans, essentials.
Taking rapid actions to limit travel by suspending visas and quarantining all incoming travellers has helped. All international passengers entering India undergo Universal Health Screening. According to health officials, more than 1 million passengers have been screened at airports, limiting the entry of coronavirus.
Indian government has taken decisive measures to contain community spread. The whole credit is to the execution plan of Central Government under the leadership of "Modi".
Execution Strategy also includes, how the Leader should review progress regularly, as long as his officials don’t falter, his state won’t falter. I am unsure who could quickly come up with a short time implementing "Arogya Sethu", "Covid19-Hub", Corana Hotline, Setting up Hospitals, Converting the Trains to Beds, and so on. It is sure that technological support is more essential to unify the mass and conduct an yagna against the Corona.
8. Attentive Listening
Modi regularly speaks to CMs, Experts, Opposition Parties, Sportsmen, Business Leads, Industrialists, understands them and sets a plan. Focus on multiple areas of administration as a Political Leader is tough. The Ratio of Oppositions to Supporters is extremely high comparing to Business Leaders.
9. Emotional Intelligence & Self Control
Never lost patience, No incidence of regretful speech. No emotional outbursts amidst lot of mouth-melters. Leaders speak capably, flawlessly, and fearlessly, it is impossible to confront and defeat him. Leaders speak with such quality that it binds those who lend their ears, and casts a spell on even those who don’t. The world will eulogize a leader , who is easily accessible and refrains from rude rebukes.
10. Higher Energy
Can we imagine the amount of stress he is under? The amount of work he is doing and its complexity.
On 24 March 2020, the Prime Minister announced a 21-day nationwide lockdown: “In order to protect the country, and each of its citizens, from midnight tonight, a complete ban is being imposed on people from stepping out of their homes.”
"India is at a crucial juncture in its fight against COVID-19. The country has responded with urgency and determination as reflected in the Prime Minister's bold and decisive leadership. The government has also aggressively stepped up the response measures - find, isolate, test, treat and trace. WHO is supporting the government's endeavour to further strengthen and intensify surveillance and build capacity of the health system. WHO stands together in solidarity with the government in its firm resolve to overcome this unprecedented challenge," says Dr Henk Bekedam, WHO Representative to India.
Apart of our Nation front, He also actively participating on the Regional and International Conferences (VCs), working with UN and other countries, ensuring the social responsibilities are accomplished on the Global Front.
Modi has played a critical role in the SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) nations’ and G-20 (Group of 20 nations) meetings. We’ve been in constant touch with world leaders and they’ve all appreciated our steps. We’re busy fighting the war against poverty. But now at this time of the crisis, we’re continually moving ahead unitedly.
Through the lens of an MD, Modi is doing a stellar good job. Isn't ?
As his strategy to achieve the goals are slowly unfolding, it amazes more and more. Does any impossible task exist, when the right resources and strategy are deployed at the right time?
Let’s understand the problem he is tackling, the magnitude of the problems he faces in this huge country of ours and what he is trying to achieve for us.
For those who, with sweet words, are capable of giving generously and protecting their people, the world is how they wish it to be.

"Humanity"
Beyond the above all 10 qualities, the most important quality, a leader should possess it that "Humanity". It is important that a leader, has to embrace the corporate social responsibility". Amidst the lock-down and the situation is unpredictable, Modi has lifted the export restriction of life-saving medicine and thereby he has been proved as "terrific".
"I want to thank Prime Minister Modi of India for allowing us to have what we requested for the problem that arose and he was terrific. We will remember it," Trump told reporters at his daily White House news conference on coronavirus on Wednesday.
In a tweet hours earlier, Donald Trump praised Narendra Modi for his strong leadership and said that India's help during this crisis will not be forgotten.
"Extraordinary times require even closer cooperation between friends. Thank you India and the Indian people for the decision on HCQ. Will not be forgotten!" he said.
"Thank you, Prime Minister for your strong leadership in helping not just India, but humanity, in this fight!" Trump said in his tweet that went viral and was re-tweeted more than 60,000 times and liked by over two lakh people.
Leadership is the ability to inspire or influence people to make a whole, willing and voluntary commitment to accomplish organizational goals effectively. That's Inspiring!.
