An inspirational interview

Once, there was a job opening in a very big company, for which an interview was being taken. Several candidates showed up for the interview with their work experience and educational certificates. But here, the executives were asking questions in a slightly different fashion.

The interview began with the bell ringing and the peon calling out the first candidate.

The young man took his file and walked up to the chamber. Opening the door, he asked permission to enter.

"Yes," replied the interviewer.

The young man thanked him and went inside to sit on the chair in front of him.

He glanced at his file and said, "Very good. Now please tell me one thing.

Suppose, you are driving to some place in a two-seater car. You drive up to a bus stop and see three people waiting for the bus. One of them is an old lady, about 90 years old, who is ill. Her condition may even result in death if she doesn't get timely treatment in a hospital. Second, is a very close friend of yours who helped you a lot some time back, that has enabled you to see this day. And third, is your girlfriend, whom you love dearly. So, let's say you have room for only one in your car, to whom will you give a lift?"

The young man thought for a moment and then replied "Sir, I will give a lift to my girlfriend."

The interviewer asked, "Will this do justice to the other two?"

The young man answered, "No sir, but the old lady is sure to die, if not today then tomorrow. It's also fine if I meet my friend later sometime, but if my girlfriend is gone once, then I don't think I'll ever be able to see her again."

The interviewer smiled and said, "I am happy to hear your honest comments. You can go now."

Saying thank you, the young man walked out.

The interviewer asked the peon to call the next candidate.

In this manner, the same question was asked to all the candidates who appeared for the interview. All the candidates gave varied answers.

Some talked about giving a lift to the old lady, some about giving a lift to the friend, while a few others, preferred to give a lift to the girlfriend. In this way, the interview went on for a long time.

When the same question was put forth, one of the candidates replied, "Sir, I will give the keys of my car to my friend and ask him to take the old lady to the hospital, and then take the car home. I'll get my car from him later and I, myself will go with my girlfriend in the bus."

The executive who was taking the interview, suddenly got up, shook hands with him and with a smile on his face said, "Gentleman, you are selected!"

"Thank you, sir," said the young man and came out of the chamber happily.

Finally, the interview came to an end.

Sometimes, we look for a solution seeing only one aspect of the problem that's in front of us, whereas the solution of the problem lies in taking all its aspects together. Many a time in life, the priority is not choosing one, but taking everyone along.
