Welcome to PitchFit!
Inspiration - it's all in your head!
Want to bring some fresh thinking to your next presentation, or next anything? Try some Mind Mapping. It's not new, but it's effective. It starts with a blank page or whiteboard and quickly paints a great picture of what's possible.
We've been doing it as we look to take Pitch Camp into exciting new places and it's working a treat.
There are plenty of resources out there, but this one from the University of Adelaide is a great place to?start.
Continuing Professional Development - obligation or opportunity?
We've been out and about talking to our professional networks and it seems not everyone is happy about how their CPD is offered. Gripes include getting CPD points for reading the Australian Financial Review and watching more in-house videos. But as?research?is showing, companies that invest in quality education and training for their people are more likely to retain their best talent.?
A good test of the quality of your CPD is to ask yourself a simple question:
do I?have?to do this session or do I?get?to do this session?
If it's not the former, your workplace might be missing a talent acquisition and retention opportunity.
Which leads us to our next, not so subtle, item...

Some necessary reading for any aspiring persuader
Last newsletter we advised that if you were looking for new ideas read something old.?
One great HBR article from the vault is The Necessary Art of Persuasion by Jay A. Conger.
Professor Conger provides advice for what to do and not do in order to move people to the win/win position you seek.?And he makes it clear that the true art of persuasion lies not in the convincing and selling, but in learning and?negotiating.?
Brew a coffee, get comfy and set aside 15 minutes to read this classic. We wish we'd read it back in 1998.
Read it?here.
Happy Pitching,
