Inspiration is all Around US

Inspiration is all Around US

I have been reflecting on the International Women’s Day events and posts that have been shared in the past week.? I was fortunate to attend the Hands Across the Water breakfast event in Sydney and listen to the stories of incredible women and how they are making a difference.

I think it is important to recognise the incredible women that have done things in the past to help bring about this positive shift.? Too often we look to famous people and forget to look at those we know on a daily basis.? My mother is an incredible woman.? In early 1970 she started working and let a babysitter look after me so she could help bring in money for our small family.? This was when mothers primarily stayed at home and if a woman went to work and left their children with ‘strangers’ they were shunned.? ??Back then it would have been very challenging and not an easy path to follow, but she did it.?

My wife, Natalie, is also an incredible woman that is helping to shape things and bring about changes.? She is a gifted dancer and dance teacher who has continued to juggle work, teaching, and volunteering in the community for over 25 years. This includes surf lifesaving, teaching, and choreographing musicals. Rather than limit herself to one thing, she steps into her strength and leads her own path.? I am blessed to be with such and amazing and giving woman.

I am also excited to the next generation of women.? When I look at my 2 daughters as they leave home and begin their own journey (one in Oz and the other in the US) I am also immensely proud.? They do not see a limited glass ceiling that will hold women back. ?They believe that they can achieve anything they want because of who they are—not what gender they are.? Watching the way they become adults and share their views to educate others is also something to admire.

So, what can we do to create the equality that women deserve?? I believe we all need to be more aware and have conversations and speak out when we see something that is not fair.? We also need to celebrate and recognise the wonderful women in our lives and not forget to let them know how much we appreciate them and how much better our lives and society are because of them!

Stay True to Your Path
