Inspection of NdFeB

Inspection of NdFeB

In the previous newsletter, we discussed several types of surface coating technologies for NdFeB, including electroplating, chemical plating, conversion coating (phosphating), and organic coatings.

Upon completing surface treatments, we obtain the final product. However, to meet the diverse usage requirements for NdFeB magnets across different fields, it is essential to objectively assess magnet suitability and quality.

Typically, this involves various tests categorized into three aspects:

1)product dimensional and physical performance

2) magnetic performance

3) supplementary performance testing

?

In this article, we will first introduce how product dimensional and physical performance testing is conducted. The dimensional and physical performance of NdFeB products are fundamental requirements for their usage. A good product not only meets magnetic performance specifications but also satisfies practical needs such as dimensions, coatings, and mechanical properties to meet basic assembly and different environmental usage requirements.

  • Dimensional inspection of NdFeB is crucial to ensure consistency in product assembly characteristics and quality performance. Typically inspected dimensions include length, width, thickness, perpendicularity, parallelism, and the size of chamfers (including R and C angles). Instruments used for dimensional inspection include calipers, micrometers, gauges, projectors, and CCD vision inspection equipment.
  • Visual inspection of NdFeB is aimed at reducing product failure risks. We inspect for pinholes, burrs, scratches, and cracks using methods such as naked-eye observation and comparison cards.
  • Adhesion strength testing of coatings on NdFeB is essential to ensure corrosion resistance. We conduct adhesion tests between the coating and substrate using mechanical testing machines or grid cut experiments.
  • Mechanical performance testing of NdFeB products aims to reduce the risk of cracking during use and to meet specific environmental requirements of some customers. Typically, we use mechanical testing machines to test the tensile and compressive properties of products.
  • Reliability testing of products aims to reduce the risk of product failure under harsh environments. Typically, we use SST, PCT, and HAST experiments to test the magnet's corrosion resistance, complex environmental weight loss, and high-temperature aging conditions.

INNUOVO conducts dimensional and visual inspections at every stage of product production to ensure that customers receive products that fully meet their requirements. Furthermore, for customers' additional testing needs such as mechanical performance, adhesion strength of coatings, and corrosion resistance, INNUOVO actively provides relevant support.
